One of several compact editions brought out after the success of Alexander's 1803 'The Costume of the Russian Empire'. With 64 hand-coloured plates here, each with a description in English only. The plates were derived from the engravings done by Johann Gottlieb Georgi in 1770s at the behest of Catherine II (the Great). No date but c. 1814. Skillfully rebacked with original boards and spine laid down. Raised bands, top edge gilt, marbled boards. small 4to. Unpaginated. Some rubbing to edges. Light mark to fore-edge. Contents clean and binding tight. Very good.
